Senior Systems and Network Administrator

What You'll Do
Reporting to the Director of IT Operations, the Senior Systems and Network administrator is responsible the full lifecycle of Linux and network based systems from evaluation/purchase/deployment through maintenance and eventually decommission. This position focuses primarily on hardware, operating systems, data center infrastructure, storage systems, and foundation technologies such as DNS, SNMP, and networking technologies such as routing, vpns, Internet connectivity, and routing.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, recommend, purchase, and deploy high availability production IT systems as required.
- Maintain and improve monitoring/alerting/trending of IT infrastructure systems
- Monitoring, analyzing and reporting on network and system capacity utilization and trending.
- Recommends allowances for growth and system expansion.
- Create/improve appropriate process and technical documentation for all relevant IT processes and technologies as appropriate.
- Ensure backup/restore processes are fully executed and that key processes enabling successful disaster recovery are followed.
- Work in colo /data center environment as needed deploying, maintaining, and decommissioning systems.
- On-call responsibilities, night and weekend project and support work as required.
- Maintain and enhance kickstart environment for new and rebuilt servers.
- Maintain all systems at appropriate patch level.
- Maintain accurate inventory and history of all networking and server equipment, including spares
- Assist with creation and maintenance of hardware and software contracts for all network and server equipment as appropriate.
Requirements
- Broad exposure and experience in high availability architectures and configurations for deploying production revenue producing IT infrastructure for high volume website deployments.
- Expert level analytical and troubleshooting skills in Linux/Internet/application/database environment.
- Expertise and experience supporting Linux, Apache, Tomcat, Java, MySQL in production environments.
- Ability to work well in a cohesive team environment as well as successfully executing on individual tasks.
- Able to clearly communicate complex subjects and recommendations through use of high level graphical representation supported by appropriate detailed backup including things like practical test results, online research, community opinion, and vendor information.
- Knowledge of best practices used in production data center deployment and IT in general.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Visio diagramming & network documentation knowledge required.
- Strong knowledge of current networking systems including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, WANs, load-balancers, wireless networking, and VOIP phone systems.
- Experience building lan to lan VPNs.
- Strong knowledge of IP-based protocols. Experienced with protocol and packet analyzer tools.
- Experience in supporting high volume Internet sites from the edge/core to access layers, including firewall and load balancing.
- Fluency with products from Cisco, Dell, F5, Juniper, Microsoft, Red Hat.
- Strong knowledge of BGP and OSPF.
- Demonstrated expertise with scripting and automation.
- Broad understanding of IT security including areas such as SSO, SSL, certificates, ssh, and VPNs.
- Many years experience doing the same or very similar things as described here.
- Experience with telephony and VoIP based phone systems.
- Experience with tools such as Nagios, Cacti, Subversion, Spamassassin, Xen, VMware
